nothing burns like Nothing.
Nothing is a gaping wound
that never really heals.
you can use tourniquet and gauze
and a drug to ease the pain,
but the placebo is just a coverup
because you never stop bleeding.
Nothing is the tyrant
that strangles the meak.
it is the fire in the field
and the famine in the villiage.
where Nothing goes, nothing follows
and no closure comes from Nothing.
Nothing is the abyss
that cannot be filled
by chemical
matter
or thought.
Nothing, once established,
cannot be swayed.
Nothing is steadfast
and relentless.
mortality is just that,
and all earthly things are mortal;
all eventually fades
and rots
and decomposes
and is replaced by nothing
which is, in return, everlasting.
although nothing ever takes your place.
and though it's hard and painful,
we must learn to live with you
vicariously in memories.
but the hardest thing we will ever learn
is how to say goodbye.

Not all who wander are lost...
anyhow... yeah. the poem tied into romeo and juliet because, well, it was real life romeo and juliet. a wedding and a funeral within days of each other... at the church, the minister reflected on how the same people gathered at the funeral were there 10 days before watching david and mary kathryn get married... 'til death do us part' wasn't very long...
